WHAT HAPPENS ON CLUB NIGHTS?
SINGAROUND / SESSION NIGHT: These are informal evenings where anyone may sing a song, play a tune or tell a story from their seat. In fact Anything Goes! Songs or tunes where others can join in often make for a lively evening!
OPEN STAGE COME ALL YE: These are evenings when performers deliver a short set of two or three songs/tunes from the stage area.
A SPOTLIGHT ON...:This is a singaround / session night with a spotlight on two of our club members or regulars who will each do an extended set of about 20 minutes each.
FEATURE NIGHT: This is an 'open stage come all ye' evening which features one of the club regulars or members who will present two extended sets of about 20/25 minutes during the evening.
For all of the types of evening mentioned above there is no entrance fee charged. The "pot" goes around for donations. There is also a raffle.
GUEST NIGHT: Once a month we invite a national (sometimes international) professional artiste to perform at the club for about half the evening. On these nights, a small charge is made (usually £4 to £5 with a £1 discount for Club members).
SPECIAL GUEST NIGHTS: Once or twice a year we book a "special guest" who will be supported by pre-arranged "support acts". Admission to these evenings is generally by Advance Ticket and the ticket prices are usually higher (£8 to £12 with a £2 discount for Club members). These evenings will be advertised well in advance.
CONCERTS: Occasionally we put on special concert evenings where the entire evening is devoted to a performance by our invited guests. The format and cost of these concerts will again be advertised well in advance.
WHAT IS CLUB MEMBERSHIP AND HOW DO I BECOME A MEMBER?
The club has a membership which entitles members to discounts on guest and concert evenings and access to 'members-only' social events (which are funded entirely from the membership fees). More details can be seen on the CLUB MEMBERSHIP page.
WHERE DOES MY MONEY GO?
The collections taken on non-guest nights and the 'profits' from the raffles each club night together make up the club coffers. The 'entry fees' on guest and special nights are kept low to facilitate 'affordability' and very rarely cover the cost of these evenings, which are invariably subsidised by the collections. There are also several other 'hidden costs' in running the club amounting to several hundred pounds each year, such as SCoFF membership fees, Website hosting fees, publicity literature, advertising, stationery, tablecloths, candles and so on. These are all met from the club coffers.
IS THERE A LICENSED BAR?
We run a licensed bar with a good selection of wines, spirits, bottled real ales and non-alcoholic and soft drinks. Tea, fruit & herbal teas and coffee is also on sale as are some basic snacks such as crisps and peanuts. These are on sale at 'club prices' and the 'profits' from the bar are used to pay for the weekly Hall Hire. The profits are also used to purchase glasses, optics, ice and the like. Occasionally the profits do not cover the Hall Hire and we yet again have to dip into the 'hopefully still there!' balance of the club coffers. Please support the bar!!
